Conceived as a new, ground-up primary residence for a retired couple, the project responds to a complex set of environmental and regulatory constraints, while stacking a variety of rear outdoor living spaces that celebrate the river views.
The narrow, pie-shaped required a small building footprint, an attic story was necessary to achieve adequate space for sleepover guests. The first floor of the resilient home is elevated nine feet above grade, furthering vertical circulation challenges. Much needed accessibility is provided via an integrated residential elevator conveniently set in a functional core corner of the home.
An open concept first floor will provide space to host family gatherings. The front facing lighthouse form provides interest along the street and creates seating and banquette dining nooks, cozy retreats to enjoy the peaceful off-season.
